The department started in year 2016 with an aim to provide technical knowledge in petroleum and energy sector to the students. Currently, department offers four years’ undergraduate course in petroleum engineering and aims to offer research programs in near future. Competent faculty members with research and teaching experience from IITs/abroad are providing technical knowledge with regular classroom teaching, practical classes and projects. In addition, eminent persons from industry and academia are also invited to interact with the students and share their vast experiences. The course curriculum is designed to impart practical training along with compulsory theory classes. The course curriculum is flexible and offers various electives as per the interest of students.
Students also get opportunity to choose topics related to recent problems in the energy sector during their B. Tech project works. Students get opportunity to undergo summer internships in esteemed organizations such as ONGC, Oil India Limited, Reliance, HPCL, IOCL etc to establish an interface between course fundamentals and field practices. In addition, students are exposed to petroleum software in reservoir simulation lab and other lab courses. Student Chapters and Achievements
AAPG Student chapter
American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG) is a global organization that comprises a group of professionals and students. The original purpose of AAPG, to foster scientific research; to advance the science of geology, especially as it relates to petroleum, natural gas, other subsurface fluids, and mineral resources; to promote technology of exploring these materials in an economically and environmentally sound manner, and to inspire high professional conduct. The Student Chapters Program of AAPG plays a critical role by providing an avenue where undergraduate and graduate students can engage in meaningful networking opportunities, and connect with professionals, both inside and outside of academia. IIPE AAPG Student Chapter commenced during 2019-2020 academic session with chapter ID 10198223.
Various activities like Geoenvironments – A field seminar (a geological field trip for the students organized in association with Delta Studies Institute), Extended Abstract writing competition among the students were carried out in accordance with the bylaws of the chapter. All these events were highly successful among the students.
SPE Student Chapter
Student chapters are located around the world and provide an operating framework for society activities at a university level. IIPE SPE Student Chapter with the vision of providing continuous personal and professional growth will bring the opportunity for students to organize and participate in technical and non-technical events, engage in technical discussions, network with industry professionals, and learn more about the oil & gas industry.
